Because the FCI standard is pretty limited I've put here the standard given by the Russian Laikaclub

(Russko-Evropeiskaia Laika)
FCI Standard No 304
Group 5, section 2

Pjotr

General view and constitutie-type. Dog of average size. Dry, strong type of constitution.

Type of behaviour. Balanced, mobile, with well advanced, rough reaction. The friendly attitude to human is typical. The characteristic course at work - gallop, from time to time alternating with trot.

Size. The height on the withers for males is 52-58 cm, for females 48-54 cm.
The height in croup at males on 1-2 cm is lower, then in withers. At females - it is equal or is lower then 1 cm. index of prolixity for males 100-103, for females 100-105
Lacks: Size of males is lower or higher limiting. Size of females is higher limiting on 2 cm.
Defects: The deviation from standard size of more than 2 cm for males and for females lower than the limit of standard size.

Defects: Red colour, ticking on a trunk., ticking on the head and legs not in tone colour. Brown and tiger colours put a dog outside of breed.

Coat. Hard, protecting hair, well developed. The magnificent Underfur is dense and soft. On the head and ears the hair is dense, but short. On the neck and shoulders it is developed more magnificently and forms a collar ( mufti), connecting with the hair growing behind the cheekbones, forming whiskers. On the shoulder hair is lengthened, especially at males. Legs are covered with short, stiff and dense hair. On the back part of the legs the hair is lengthened, but without feathering. On the paws the hair is short and rigid, making the way between fingers forming a brush. The tail is covered with stif hair , the hair from the bottom part is longer, but not plumage-like.
Lacks: Absence collar and whiskers. (Not during the period of moulting).
Defects: Wavy and curly or with parting on the back coat, weak development of underfur, too long hair on the bottom part of the tai(plumage-like)l, feathering on the back part of forlegs. Hair too short or too long put a dog outside of breed.

Leather. Muscles. Skeleton. Leather dense., elastic, without friable hypodermic checks and fold. Muscles dry, well advanced. Skeleton strong. A grasp of the midfoot must be males 10-12 cm, at females 9-11 cm
Defects: deviations from the standard.

Head. Dry, sight from above -wedge shaped-., coming nearer to an equipotential triangle.
With rather wide occipital part of the cranium in comparison with the West-Siberian Laika.
Muzzle dry and pointed. The length of the muzzle is a little bit shorter than the length of the cranium.
Transition from the forehead to the muzzle is expressed, not sharply, but the moveable eyebrow arches create impression of the expressed transition.
The top line of the muzzle is parallel to the line of the forehead. Cheekbones are well expressed, that is typical for the breed. Therefore transition from cheekbones to the muzzle is clearly expressed. The cranium is rather short, its length insignificantly exceeds width. Parietal crest and occipital ridge are imperceptible.
The occipital part of the cranium is approximated. Lips dry, skin tight, without hanging over.
Lacks: Convex forehead. Partial depigmentation from the nose, lips or eyelid. sunken eyebrow arches should be carried to lacks or defects depending on the degree of expressiveness.
Defects: Head lengthened. Absence expressed, or presence of sharp transition from the forehead to the muzzle, hitched up. Too lengthened or a massive muzzle. A straight line from lips. Absence of the expressed cheekbones.

Lacks: A long waist, straight, slightly humpbacked.
Defects: the same deviations, but expressed in a sharper degree.
